FM Transmission on Hiatus
Free Radio San Diego has temporarily suspended broadcasting on 96.9 FM. Our programming will continue to be available online using the media stream links on the left of this page. In the meantime, we are actively seeking a location from which to transmit our signal. If you own property and would be like to be OUR HERO by leasing a small amount of space to us, we'd love to hear from you.
If you're genuinely interested in helping to get FRSD back on the air, please contact us at freeradiosandiego(at)gmail(dot)com. DO NOT use your name, your address, or send a message from your business email. Just send us a quick note and we'll be in touch.
Thanks for everyone's support... WE WILL BE BACK!!

FRSD 4th Anniversary Party... yeeearrrgh!!! Friday, November 3
Hey kitty kats and scurvy dogs! Free Radio San Diego has now been around for FOUR YEARS. Dang. So naturally it's time to mark the occasion with a little get-together...
The fine people at Kava Lounge are graciously hosting the event, and they're even allowing us to use their gallery next door so you under-21 types can come too. Of course, there's a bar in the lounge so the big kids can get their drink on. It's an anniversary celebration/post-Halloween/Dia de los Muertos party so there'll be costumes, spooky decorations, great dj music, plus a few suprises we got up our collective sleeve. What's the tariff, you say? No cover! We will be selling a few FRSD trinkets if you'd like to help us out with some cash.
Kava Lounge is at 2812 Kettner Blvd. The owners have been there for a a couple-few years but it used to be the Pirate's Den. Before that, the Velvet. Which replaced the original Casbah. Whoa.
Come celebrate our anniversary with us in this classic space! Costumes STRONGLY encouraged but not required. See ya then ok bye.

96.9FM - back on the airwaves
On April 1 2006, Free Radio San Diego resumed broadcasting at full power on 96.9MHz on the FM dial, and that's no April Fool's. Please keep us updated with signal reports, but initial reports put our coverage area as good if not the best it's ever been.
FRSD has been broadcasting without a license, and without causing any interference or harm to anything, for over three and a half years in the San Diego area. We have survived every flavor of FCC enforcement thus far, including rebounding from a US Marshall backed raid last summer.
We would like to thank everyone that has supported us in so many ways. As the station's founder, I don't think I can relate how motivating it is to see people I don't know in 969 t shirts, putting the stickers on their cars or bicycles, or over hearing people talking about us. I can promise you that as before, we will never quit.
As long as there are people out there who think that the people of San Diego deserve more than this spoon fed corporate rock bullshit and party line talking points (regardless of left / right bias), we will continue to provide the best quality radio station that we can. We are not professional DJs; we are normal people in the community like you. You might not like everything we do, but it's honest, and we're not hear to lie to you or sell you a mattress.
Also, please remember that although our entry requirements are obviously quite stringent and difficult, we are always looking for new DJs. We intentionally make the process difficult and tedious because being a 969 dj is no cake walk. You will confront the FCC, you might get arrested, you might get a court injunction and/or a huge fine slapped on you, there is an intense security culture, you will work hard, and you need to be able to get along with people you don't like or agree with on every detail. We are a tight knit group.

FRSD 96.9 FM Joins Forces with eRaza
While still heavily under development, eRaza is an online user community that will replace our message boards, but more importantly works as a funding source for grass roots orginizations working to make the world a better place to be.
The goal of eRaza is not simply to become a large and full featured community with a large membership base, but to channel advertiser's dollars into worthwhile causes, rather than simply lining the pockets of Fox News Corp, the way that myspace.com does.

FRSD is changing locations
Free Radio San Diego is searching for a dedicated, land-owning person that would be interested in renting out a small space for our antenna. The FCC will give you shit (that's their job). They'll lie to you, they'll even threaten you. You must be willing and able to stand up against this and know that as a landlord your rights do protect you.
For further information please email us at freeradiosandiego@gmail.com
